What is a trigger point?

A trigger point is a band of muscular fibers that have become tense and sensitive from repetitive use, strain and injury. Trigger points create referral pain and further strain throughout the muscle.

What is a trigger point release massage?

This type of treatment focuses on releasing the tender, tight muscle fibers that cause pain through a targeted approach. This often involves applying direct pressure, manipulation and stretch to the trigger point area in order to stimulate blood flow to the muscle and help release the trigger point. It can sometimes cause slight discomfort, but your therapist will consult with you about pressure before and during the treatment.

What are the benefits of trigger point release?

  • improved flexibility, improved range of motion
  • decrease in tension and pain
  • improved posture, especially for desk-workers
  • decreased headaches and migraines
  • increase feelings of relaxation
