Infant Massage in Downtown Vancouver
What is infant massage instruction?
Infant massage is a gentle, structured form of touch that a Registered Massage Therapist can teach to a parent or caregiver, or provide directly during an appointment.
At Everest Therapeutics in downtown Vancouver, infant massage is offered by Valia Marquez, RMT. She is the only therapist at the clinic who currently provides it, so these appointments are booked with her directly.
What Is Infant Massage?
Infant massage uses slow, light, deliberate contact, adapted to a baby’s age, size and comfort. It is quieter and far lighter than any adult treatment, and the pace is set by the infant rather than by a routine.
Because an infant cannot consent or describe how something feels, the therapist works slowly, watches for cues, and pauses or stops when the baby signals they have had enough. A parent or guardian stays present throughout.
What Infant Massage Is Not
Infant massage is sometimes marketed as a remedy for colic, reflux, teething, sleep difficulties or immune health. We do not describe it that way, because the evidence does not support those claims.
It is not a treatment for any medical condition, and it is not a substitute for assessment by your child’s physician, midwife or public health nurse.
Everest Therapeutics is a registered massage therapy clinic located in the Electra Building at 970 Burrard Street, MZ2, in downtown Vancouver.

Registered Massage Therapist Trained in Infant Massage
Who Books Infant Massage
Parents and caregivers commonly ask about infant massage when they:
- Want to learn structured techniques for calm, settled contact with their baby
- Prefer guidance from a Registered Massage Therapist rather than a video or a book
- Have been encouraged by a healthcare professional to look into gentle handling
- Want to ask whether a particular RMT’s training suits their situation
Whether infant massage suits your family is an individual question. It cannot be settled from a web page, and your RMT will say so if a different approach, or none at all, would serve you better.
What Happens During an Infant Massage Appointment?
At your first appointment, Valia will ask about your baby’s age, birth history, feeding and sleep patterns, any recommendations from your care team, and what you are hoping to get from the session. She will explain what she can and cannot offer, and get your consent before starting.
A typical session includes:
- Demonstration of slow, light techniques on the arms, legs, back or abdomen
- Coaching so you can repeat the techniques confidently at home
- Attention to positioning, room temperature and timing within your baby’s day
- Pauses whenever your baby signals they have had enough
- Time for your questions
A parent or guardian stays present for the whole appointment. Infant massage is booked as a 60-minute appointment.
When to Speak With a Physician Instead
If your baby is unwell, has a fever, has a skin condition, was born prematurely, has had recent surgery, or you have any concern about feeding, weight gain, breathing or development, speak with your physician, midwife or public health nurse before booking.
Seek urgent medical attention for a baby who has difficulty breathing, is unusually drowsy or hard to rouse, is vomiting persistently, or has a fever.
