Massage Therapy Support for Shin Splints in Downtown Vancouver

“Shin splints” is a common description for exercise-related pain along the shin. It can occur when running, walking, jumping or training volume changes. Similar symptoms may also come from other conditions, so it is important not to assume every shin pain is the same.

Everest RMTs may support comfort and related lower-leg muscle tension when massage is appropriate. Massage does not diagnose a stress fracture, determine safe return-to-running timelines, or replace medical or physiotherapy assessment when symptoms are significant or persistent.

How Massage May Support Recovery

Treatment may address calf, foot and surrounding lower-leg soft-tissue tension, with pressure adjusted to symptoms. An RMT may discuss activity modification and referral, but should not encourage patients to push through pain or promise a rapid return to sport.

When to Seek Assessment

Arrange medical or physiotherapy assessment for focal bone tenderness, pain at rest or at night, swelling, a limp or inability to bear weight, pain after a direct injury, numbness/tingling, or pain that is worsening or not improving with reduced load. These symptoms can need assessment for conditions other than ordinary exercise-related soreness.

FAQs

Can massage help shin splints?

Massage may support lower-leg muscle comfort as part of a wider recovery plan. It should not replace assessment for focal, severe or persistent shin pain.

Should I keep running through the pain?

No. Reduce or stop activities that aggravate the pain and seek guidance if it persists or worsens.
