TMJ Massage Therapy in Downtown Vancouver

Does Everest Therapeutics offer massage therapy for TMJ and jaw tension?

Everest Therapeutics provides massage therapy for jaw, face, neck and shoulder tension at 970 Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver, seven days a week from 7am to 9pm. A first appointment is 60 minutes and costs $145 plus GST. Massage therapy does not diagnose a temporomandibular disorder and does not replace dental or medical care.

Jaw tightness, clenching, facial tension, clicking, headaches and neck discomfort can overlap. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the muscles around it can be affected by stress, habits such as clenching, jaw loading and neck or shoulder tension.

Massage therapy does not diagnose a temporomandibular disorder, realign the jaw, replace dental care, or promise to resolve clicking or pain. Your RMT will discuss your symptoms, treatment goals and consent before using any focused jaw, face, neck or shoulder work.

Who books TMJ massage therapy

People book these appointments when they notice jaw tightness, clenching or grinding, aching around the temples, facial tension, or neck and shoulder tension that turns up alongside jaw symptoms. Some book during a stressful stretch, some after dental treatment, and some alongside care they are already receiving from a dentist or physician.

You do not need a referral to book. Our registered massage therapists each have their own profile and booking link, and reception can help you choose.

What happens in a TMJ appointment

Your RMT starts by asking about clenching, grinding, headaches, recent dental treatment, jaw locking, medications and your pressure preferences. They will explain the approach they are proposing and ask for your consent before starting.

Treatment can include gentle work to the jaw muscles, temples, face, neck, shoulders and upper back, chosen from what the assessment shows and what you are comfortable with. Some appointments focus on the neck and shoulders rather than the jaw itself. Pressure is adjusted throughout, and you can ask to change or stop anything at any point.

Jaw tension rarely sits on its own

Jaw symptoms often turn up alongside neck tension, shoulder tension and headaches, and people frequently book for one and mention the others once they are on the table. If that sounds like your situation, our pages on headaches and migraines and neck pain cover the same ground from a different angle, and some therapists use trigger point therapy or myofascial release as part of the appointment.

When not to rely on massage alone

Seek assessment from a dentist, physician or urgent-care service for a locked jaw, difficulty opening or closing the mouth, facial swelling, fever, recent facial trauma, a new bite change, severe or worsening pain, numbness, or symptoms that are not improving. Emergency symptoms such as sudden weakness, confusion, vision changes or a severe unusual headache require urgent medical care.

Frequently asked questions

Can an RMT diagnose TMJ disorder?

No. An RMT can assess within massage-therapy scope and provide soft-tissue treatment when appropriate. Diagnosis and dental or medical care remain with the relevant regulated provider.

Do I need a referral to book TMJ massage therapy?

No. You can book a registered massage therapist directly in British Columbia. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so it is worth checking your own policy.

Do you bill my extended health plan directly?

Yes, for most plans. We submit claims directly to your insurer at the time of your appointment when your extended health plan allows it. Coverage, annual limits and the amount paid are set by your plan.

Can I book on a weekend or in the evening?

Yes. We are open Monday to Sunday, 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, including holidays.

Should I tell my RMT about recent dental work?

Yes. Recent dental treatment, jaw locking, grinding, headaches, medications and any recent trauma all change how your therapist approaches the appointment, so mention them at the start.

Is a TMJ appointment different from a regular massage?

Yes. The appointment is built around the jaw, face, neck and shoulders rather than a full-body treatment, and your RMT will talk through the approach and get your consent before any focused work.

Can I stop or change the treatment partway through?

Yes. You can ask your RMT to adjust pressure, move to a different area or stop at any point in the appointment.

How much does a TMJ massage therapy appointment cost?

A first 60-minute appointment is $145 plus GST. Follow-up rates vary by therapist and session length, and every one is listed on our prices page.
